Tina Sheppard, is blessed or cursed depending on how you look at it. With telekinetic powers. She accidentally killed her father when she was a little girl using her powers. It happened in Crystal Lake, where her family owns a summer home. After his death she was locked in a mental institution for years. Dr. Crews, Tina's shrink, thinks it might be wise to visit the scene of the "crime" again. So with her shrink and mother, they return to Crystal Lake. Next door a group of young adults are gathered for a birthday celebration. Later that night Tina attempts to bring her father back from his watery grave, but instead she awakens Jason. Soon Tina is having visions of a young man being murdered.
